Milanese

“Milanes l’é mort” is a project about saving Milanese, the dialect of the city of Milan. Spoken by only 2% of the current population, the language is in decline and in danger of vanishing completely. The typographic poster is designed to begin a conversation about the threat of extinction of the language, with it also acting as a redirect, sending viewers to the campaign’s digital platforms.

The campaign is aimed at those most likely to be missing out or unaware of Milanese and it’s plight – a younger audience. The project also introduces a series of accents that help to facilitate the pronounciation of Milanese, representing how it differs to standard Italian.

For this project I designed a font inspired by Milan, its history and architecture, taking specific influence from the clash between the neoclassical and brutalist architectural style of the city.
